Entergy settles electrocution suit

Electrical utility Entergy Texas, Inc., a subsidiary of Entergy Corp., reached a settlement in a personal injury lawsuit filed by Montgomery County resident Fernando Ponce against the company, whose trial was scheduled for March, the Southeast Texas Record reported on February 3.

Ponce was seeking more than $1 million in the lawsuit he filed on July 16, 2013 in Jefferson County District Court, claiming he suffered from an electrical shock in his Conroe home on July 18, 2012 due to Entergy’s allegedly ill-maintained power lines.

In a Dec. 16, 2014 counter and motion for summary judgment in the part of Entergy, it was claimed that Ponce had been cleaning his yard at the time of the incident and touched the overhead power line with a 20-foot angle iron, directly causing his own electrocution and absolving Entergy of all responsibilities relating to the accident.
