Cameras for high traffic Round Rock areas to be installed

Traffic engineers in Round Rock are considering new ways to monitor traffic flow in the city to lessen traffic accidents, and one of the steps they will undertake is the installation of 12 new “point-tilt-zoom” cameras throughout the city, the Austin-American Statesman reported on July 25.

Traffic engineers will be capable of viewing and monitoring a live stream, but they said there is no way to search back through video and find a singular incident captured on camera. Despite this, this measure is expected to help identify public safety issues related to traffic.

The first camera was installed on the southeast intersection of the Ranch to Market Road 620 and Interstate 35, while others will be set up at major arterial roads like Gattis School Road, Palm Valley Boulevard, and University Drive.
