Five members of musical cast killed in Panhandle area vehicular accident

Five members of a popular summer musical production, Texas, were killed in an auto accident north of Amarillo in the Texas Panhandle area on Monday, August 12. Three of them were West Texas A&M University theater students.

The deceased were identified as 21-year-old Fort Worth resident Eric Harrison, 20-year-old Amarillo local Clinton Diaz, 20-year-old Wichita Falls native Andrew Duncan, 20-year-old Timonium, Maryland resident Amanda Starz, and 24-year-old Haltom City resident Julian Arredondo.

The driver, Diaz, allegedly ran a red light, causing the vehicle to be broadsided on the passenger’s side when it pulled in front of a southbound 18-wheeler. The truck was attempting to turn onto U.S. 287 near Dumas, about 40 miles north of Amarillo, according to Public Safety spokesman Christopher Ray.

Thirty-year-old Houston resident Timothy Johnson, who sat directly behind Diaz, was brought to Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, where he was critical condition.
